FAQs

What is the role of a Life Coach?

Often, I’m asked, what does a life coach do exactly and just asking the question is the beginning of a positive journey. It shows that individuals are ready to bring positive change to their life. A life coach is an individual whose mission is to help others empower themselves by helping them set and fulfill goals on a personal and professional level. These goals can be anywhere from losing weight, saving money, improving personal relationships to taking their professional life to the next level. This is accomplished through providing a deep listening ear, motivation, and the powerful questions their clients aren’t already asking themselves.

The end goal of a life coach is to help their clients uncover limiting beliefs and emotional barriers so they are able to face challenges head on and lead a fulfilling life. This is obtained by maintaining an objective viewpoint and helping their client build their own path by offering guidance and support and pushing them to create achievable action items and milestones to get their clients ‘addicted to success’. What to expect from a life coaching session?

Life coaching sessions officially last 50 minutes (total time commitment is 60 minutes, allowing ten minutes of introduction and debrief). Sessions are done either over the phone, virtually via FaceTime, Skype, or a Google Hangout, or can be done face to face all depending on the need of the client. (It is never recommended to conduct a life coaching session via text, instant messaging, or email as it is difficult for both parties to assess sincerity, tonality, practice intuition, and overall genuinely express internal processes and emotion).

My sessions are guided by the Socratic method of questioning, to better identify the direction in which you will show us you want to go. While I will work with you to help you identify limiting beliefs or what you truly want out of life, it is ultimately up to you to show yourself what you truly need. I will never force you into making a decision you are not ultimately comfortable with. But once you’ve made a decision, I will push you and remind you what you’ve told me you want to achieve.

How is life coaching different from counseling or therapy?

Therapy is typically designed to help you uncover deep issues in your past that have created crippling mental health problems. Life coaching is more focused on helping you build positive growth for your future. It is strongly advised that if you feel you need help from a mental professional, you should seek their help before seeing a life coach.

Essentially, therapy is past focused (helping you cope), life coaching is future focused (helping you build). Also, a life coach is not certified or trained to assist or diagnose a mental health problem, however, a life coach can and should recommend you to see a therapist if a potential mental health problem is suspected.

How many life coaching sessions do I need?

That is completely up to you and how you feel you are developing through the life coaching process.

Some have been with me up to a month, others have been with me for over a year. It really depends on you, there is no right or wrong length of time.

Why would someone hire a life coach?

That is a question you will need to answer, as the response is completely subjective and will depend on your present needs. Also, needs change; the things you feel you should focus on today, could be different then what you want to focus on a month from now. Here are some common reasons why someone would hire a life coach:

  • Dating life needs improvement.
  • Professional life has become stagnant, uncertain of where to go next.
  • Ready to achieve your dreams but uncertain of how to take the first step.
  • Want to lose weight.
  • Improve skill set.
  • Personal life has become stagnant, uncertain of where to go next.

What makes you different? Why should I hire you as a life coach?

You will not find a coach as committed as I am to, one, understanding all that is you and, two, helping to motivate you into putting everything you can into achieving success! You will not find someone as intuitive and empathetic as I am to the human experience and the basic fundamentals needed to ensure wants and needs are met when it comes to goal accomplishment. I am focused on helping you put yourself first and you will not find a coach as educated and as honest as I am in helping you connect with yourself in ways you never thought possible! But don’t take my word for it, here’s a glowing review from a previous client who has gone from self-deprecating behavior to understanding all of her strengths and how to inject them into daily goal accomplishment:

“My time with Life Coach Tommy has been life changing. I’ve worked with therapists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, but no one has done as much to improve my self-love and confidence. Life Coach Tommy is effective as a life coach because he’s done the work on himself and he really cares. He gives great advice and troubleshoots challenges with me, it feels like a collaboration of problem solving with a trusted friend. During our sessions I feel heard, respected, and prioritized, which encourages me to put the work into myself to accomplish my goals.”
